Wine, Pizza and Popcorn: Mae & Brian’s At-Home Couples Session in Oklahoma

Date

Some of my favorite photos don’t happen at a scenic overlook or a fancy downtown venue. They happen at home, in the kitchen, on the floor, in the bathtub, in the places where real life happens. Mae and Brian’s in-home couples session is proof that the most romantic photos come from being yourselves in your own space.

We planned two stories for this session: a cozy date night in with wine and pizza, and a slow, playful morning with popcorn and pajamas. Two moods, one couple and a whole lot of love. If you’ve ever wondered whether an at-home session is right for you, keep reading.

Story One:

Wine, Pizza and a Night In

There is nothing like grabbing wine and pizza and calling it a night in with the one you love. That was the whole idea behind the first half of this shoot.

Grandma picked up the kids, and Mae and Brian had the house to themselves. We started in their beautiful kitchen, with dark cabinets, marble counters and warm pendant lights glowing overhead. Mae hopped up on the counter with a glass of red wine, Brian leaned in, and within minutes the two of them forgot I was even there.

Then we moved to the floor. Shoes off, backs against the cabinets, a pizza box between them and wine glasses in hand. This is my favorite part of any in-home session: the moment a couple stops “posing” and starts just being together. Mae climbing into Brian’s lap, the two of them laughing over a slice, a kiss that lasted a little longer than planned. No perfection, no performance. Just two people who clearly still choose each other every day.

For parents especially, this kind of session means something. Life gets busy with work, school pickups and bedtime routines, and it’s easy to forget to be a couple and not just a team. Taking one evening to celebrate your relationship, and having photos to prove it, is a gift to yourselves.

Story Two:

Slow Sunday Mornings with Your Best Friend

For the second look, we slowed everything down. The concept was simple: slow Sunday mornings with your best friend, taking it easy with popcorn and pajamas.

Mae slipped into an oversized, off-the-shoulder sweater, Brian kept it casual in a black tee, and we set them up in their gorgeous freestanding tub by the window with a big bowl of popcorn. The natural light pouring in was soft and dreamy, exactly the feel we wanted.

What happened next was pure fun. Popcorn went flying. Brian caught a piece in his mouth. Mae laughed so hard she had to hide her face in his shoulder. There were stolen kisses, tickles and those quiet, cuddled-up moments where you can see how comfortable two people are together.

This is the way I want to spend all of my days, and I think anyone looking at these photos feels the same. The session was creative and romantic, and it gave Mae and Brian space to be both playful and passionate. That balance is what I want for every couple I photograph.

Why Choose an At-Home Couples Session?

If you’re looking for photographers in OKC and you’re torn between a location shoot and something more personal, here’s why I love in-home sessions:

You’re already comfortable.

Your home is your space. There’s no crowd walking by and no wind messing up your hair. That comfort shows up in your photos as relaxed body language and genuine smiles.

Your photos tell your real story.

The kitchen where you cook together, the couch where you watch movies, the tub where you unwind. These places are part of your relationship, and photographing them makes your images personal in a way a park bench never could.

It’s all about connection, not poses.

My approach has always been about authentic expression, not stiff posing. I give prompts and set up the scene, then let the two of you do what you do best: love each other.

Props make it fun.

Wine, pizza, popcorn, your favorite records, a board game or even your morning coffee. A simple activity gives your hands something to do and brings out natural laughter.

How to Prepare for Your In-Home Session

Here are a few tips I share with every couple before an at-home shoot:

  1. Pick a theme or activity. Date night, lazy morning, cooking together or movie night. Having a story makes the session flow.
  2. Tidy the main spaces. No need to deep-clean the whole house. We’ll focus on one or two rooms with good natural light.
  3. Coordinate, don’t match. Neutral tones, soft textures and cozy layers photograph beautifully indoors.
  4. Plan for the kids. Like Mae and Brian, many couples call in a grandparent or sitter so they can relax and focus on each other.
  5. Bring your personality. The best photos come from the things that make you, you.

Let’s Tell Your Story

Mae and Brian’s session is a reminder that romance doesn’t need a fancy location. It lives in the little moments: a glass of wine on the kitchen floor or a bowl of popcorn on a slow morning. Those are the moments worth remembering.

As an Oklahoma photographer, I offer couples sessions, branding photography, boudoir, maternity and wedding photography and videography across the OKC area. Whether you’re celebrating ten years together or just want an excuse for a date night, I’d love to create something meaningful with you.

An Invitation

I hope more clients feel inspired to invite me into their everyday spaces to tell their stories in this way. Whether that’s documenting life on a farm, a family’s cozy evening at home, or even the behind-the-scenes of a business, these are the moments that matter. They’re the ones we’ll want to look back on—not just because they were beautiful, but because they were real.

If you’ve been thinking about booking a session—whether it’s boudoir, maternity, branding, wedding, or a creative lifestyle shoot—I would love to talk with you. Together, we can create images that not only look stunning but also tell your story in a way that feels authentic, empowering, and true to you.
