Boudoir Photography can be such an overwhelming and intimidating experience for lots of people. The thought of not looking a certain way or that flaws and imperfections could be highlighted is terrifying. Have you ever felt that way? I know I have!
I wanted to introduce you to Justin and Dee! Justin and Dee are happily married. Both are obsessed with each other, and the love they share is fierce! They decided they wanted to do an intimate boudoir photography session but they decided to do it together as a couples session!
There is something about the way a man and a woman look at each other when they are deeply in love and passionate about each other. The tension formed in the air is palpable and the look in their eyes is something worth capturing. The way a woman looks at her man can literally empower him to take on the world and move mountains– and there is something so timeless about seeing the look in your partners eyes and knowing that in that moment, they were looking at you. Love allows us to be intertwined with someone and all of their flaws and imperfections and to love them regardless. When I am doing a boudoir photography session, especially with couples- my goal is to capture that love in the rawest of moments. To allow both individuals to see and feel their passion in the moment- but also in the image.
Typically, with a couples boudoir photography session, I send a few emails to get to know the clients desires and expectations of not only myself, as the boudoir photographer, but also of each other and the overall end product. We talk about things like outfit choices, role-play, boundaries and even the opportunity to explore ideas together in a sensual way that they hadn’t thought of or explored before.
On the day of the session- the woman usually arrives first. We have a hair and makeup artist come to the studio to help her create the look she wants without all the stress of getting herself ready ahead of time. This also allows for some additional conversation and gives the customer time to relax and feel comfortable in the space.
Then once we are ready to start- the man will usually arrive. Allowing him to come later also helps him to not have to wait around long before the action! Once both people have arrived- We pick outfits. I have a large client closet that is included in your session cost. We also talk through different role play and scenarios to create the overall mood and the images they are wanting to capture.
For this session, we started off with Justin in a suit- as if he had just come home from a day at work. Dee is imagining herself meeting him at the door and welcoming him inside. Once the tone is set, I allow them to get into the experience. These are not posed images. These are two individuals enjoying and exploring each other- I am simply capturing the beauty of it all.
We utilized multiple back drops, coordinated outfits and created different scenarios for the two of them to role play. I focused on a variety of different moods in the images. Some images are more sensual, sexy, and risqué. There were lots of passionate images, and some fun but the one thing you see over and over again are two people who are not only crazy in love but also confident in that love. They feel sexy and empowered and they just genuinely enjoy every part of the other person. Usually being with your partner is something that gives you more confidence and helps you to work past the roadblocks in your mind. Your passion is heightened by feeling their body next to yours and your confidence grows by looking into the eyes of someone who finds you overwhelmingly attractive. Once it becomes two people enjoying an experience together- the walls come down, magic happens, and art is made. That is what boudoir photography is- art.
